For My Dearest Girls

Dearest Girls,

Welcome to the blog I've started just for you! Today is January 2, 2017 and I sit here reflecting on not only the most recent year, but so much of the past 20 years as well.  As I send one daughter back to college after the winter break, I sit at the kitchen table discussing college plans with the other.  Life is moving fast. There is so much I would like to share with both of you and I feel time and opportunities slipping away.  There's an old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear".  Well, I am hoping this blog will serve as the teacher when the time comes that you are ready.

Ready for what? Ready for family recipes, ready for life lessons, ready for tips and tricks.  I know we've gone over many of these already, but what a great resource for you to have these things at your fingertips.  I had originally thought of putting a cookbook together with all of our family recipes in it, but I found myself going to my sister's blog http://homeiswheremystorybegins.net/ to get all the recipes! Sure, you can always click on Auntie Becca's blog for everything homey and cozy, but these come straight from me, your mom.

Should this blog reach outside our family circle, welcome! I hope you get a feel for our family and I'd be honored if one of our recipes made it to your family table.  Cheers!

For those I haven't met, please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Heather Fadden and I am a wife and mom to 2 teenage girls Bailey and Hannah.  Bailey is in her 2nd year of college at Boise State and Hannah is a senior in high school - trying to narrow down her college choice for next year. I am a Real Estate Broker here in Washington State and keep busy selling homes and managing our household.  Like many of you busy moms - who work both inside and outside the home, there are a lot of plates to keep spinning.  In addition to all that life is throwing at you, it's important to be the teacher and role model for your kids.  I don't know if you're like me, but I have found MANY times in my past I have been too tired to "teach" and just wanted to "do" to get the job done.  Well, I hope this blog serves as a sufficient substitute for a few of those times when I probably should have had the kids helping in the kitchen instead of watching TV.

My heart was warmed recently when I visited my daughter at college.  When I was a little girl, my mom used to make us Swedish Pancakes for breakfast on Saturday mornings. (Some call them crepes, we called them Swedish Pancakes).  We'd roll them in butter and slather them with syrup - such a treat! When my girls were little I continued the tradition and made Swedish pancakes for them as well.  My oldest, Bailey, never took a liking to them.  Not sure if it was the texture or what, but they were not her favorite.  Just last month when I visited her at school, her one request was for me to make Swedish Pancakes for she and her friends.  This time she filled them with strawberries and whipped cream and found them to be pretty good! 19 years later she finally likes them - yay!   Needless to say, my Swedish Pancake recipe will be mentioned in this blog.

Again, this is for you, my dearest girls.  I hope you find all that you're looking for in here.  I love you to the moon and back, Mom.
